Jim on the Issues

Keeping our Families Safe
As a husband and father, I am concerned for my family’s protection as politicians prioritize the rights of criminals over law-abiding citizens. The passage of Prop 47 is a prime example. Since its passage, we have seen property crime escalate. We must repeal ill-conceived soft-on-crime policies while investing in public safety, including new law enforcement personnel and the resources to ensure their success and safety. As your representative in Sacramento, I will advocate for stricter penalties for violent criminals while ensuring the men and women who protect our streets have the support they deserve.

Reducing the burden on California Families
Too many California families are living from paycheck to paycheck, while many are still coming up short. I will work with Senate colleagues to give California families much-needed tax relief, especially from the gas tax, which has made California’s fuel more expensive than any other state. As a small business owner, I am hampered by California’s heavy-handed anti-business regulations daily. As a Teamster, I have witnessed extreme environmentalist special interests kill working family jobs. We need to have a working families first policy in Sacramento as opposed to a government that seems to only work for wealthy elites and corporate interests.

Empowering Parents
As a parent, I have always been frustrated with California’s lack of quality education and Sacramento’s use of our education system as a social engineering experiment instead of teaching students the fundamentals needed for success. We must return to the basics while creating new and better educational opportunities for our students.

A student’s educational experience is significantly better with parental involvement. Parents must be encouraged to participate in their student’s education and school curriculum decisions. The path to a better education system is a partnership between educators and parents.

Support of local Agriculture Industry
I have worked in various roles in the Central Valley’s multi-billion-dollar Agriculture Industry. We must protect our Delta Water while building more water storage above and below ground. We must also encourage sustainable practices such as water recycling, rainwater harvesting, and efficient irrigation techniques. Our drought problem is not due to the lack of water but to poor policies that neglect or reject water storage infrastructure because of a radical environmental agenda. It is time to start putting people first.

Tackling our Statewide Homeless Crisis
I will demand the Governor address our statewide homeless crisis while I work with local government to find shelter and rehabilitation services for local homeless. Addressing the root cause of homelessness is fundamental. We need to invest in mental health and drug rehabilitation services while enforcing laws on the books that will remove law-breaking homeless from our streets and parks.
